AEROTIM HANGAR
IN UKRAINE
Timur Fatkullin became world champion in intermediate
aerobatics in Czechia in 2019 and won five gold medals
with the Ukrainian national team. Skill and concentration
are paramount for the founder of Aerotim. In 2025, he
had a “workplace on the ground” built for himself and
his colleagues of the air. Dan Vakhrameyev designed this
hangar, including social rooms – clear and focused.
L oops, rolls, turns, spins, inverted flight ... these manoeuvres are not
for the faint-hearted. Even just videos that are being watched – let
alone live events – cause spontaneous breathlessness among the spec-
tators. For Timur Fatkullin and his Ukrainian sports colleagues, aeroba-
tics means everything. That’s why they needed their own hangar in a
location that we are not allowed to disclose here. This is their realm:
repair- and maintenance work takes place there, storage rooms are
available and there are social rooms. The hangar can be opened across
its entire width via a folding zinc door. Polycarbonate panels installed
above it allow natural light to fall into the hall during the day. Open,
filigree trussed girders, a corrugated-iron roof, exposed ventilation pipes
and technical equipment reflect the character of the industrial style and,
at the same time, reflect the necessary reduction and the essential pre-
cision that underlies aircraft construction. The walls are clad with large,
robust and reversible panels made of cement-bonded chipboard. The
explicitly visible fasteners are also derived from aircraft construction.
To achieve a coherent design, doors, work surfaces and shelves were
made from the same material as the walls, whereas, on the other hand,
the individual pieces of furniture are made from simple plywood. A
homogeneous, seamless polymer floor forms the work surface in the
hangar. The upper floor, where the crew’s social rooms are located, has
had durable vinyl flooring installed. General- and accent lighting ensure
optimal working conditions. A clear view is an absolute prerequisite
for aerobatics. And Aerotim also relies on “visibility” on the ground. A
panoramic window offers the team an unobstructed view of the hangar
from the upper floor. There is a compact office as well as a sleeping-,
changing-, sanitary-, kitchen- and leisure area – all clearly separated yet
all visually connected. At the crew’s request, even the changing- and
shower area offers a view of the hall. In the sleeping area, the beds are
arranged in a space-saving manner in the form of bunk beds. Sound-
absorbing, upholstered textile coverings and soft lighting are designed
to promote regeneration during well-earned sleep.
