                                                                                    IN LIPPSTADT





                                                                                    The perfect fall of the folds: in order to be able to sub-
                                                                                    divide the desired open room structures in the two-sto-
                                                                                    rey extension of the Deimel tax office, the Rinsdorf Strö-
                                                                                    cker architects’ office in Lippstadt opted for attractive
                                                                                    textile room dividers. With their uniform wave pattern,
                                                                                    semi-transparent curtains allow the office space to be
                                                                                    used flexibly without compromising on openness.


                                                                                    W     hat will the working models of a tax consultancy look like in the
                                                                                          future, and what do trainees and young employees want when
                                                                                    it comes to the design of the office premises where they spend a major
                                                                                    part of their days? Deimel Steuerberatungsgesellschaft in Lippstadt
                                                                                    explored these questions in a workshop that was organized together
                                                                                    with the commissioned local architectural firm Rinsdorf Ströcker, the-

                                                                                    quickly became clear: The younger generation no longer wants to sit in
                                                                                    small cubicle offices, isolated from their colleagues. They want open (or
                                                                                    more open, as the case might be) room structures that promote com-
                                                                                    munication but, at the same time, offer the possibility of temporarily
                                                                                    retreating for meetings. In addition, the principle of desk sharing should
                                                                                    successfully contribute to greater flexibility in the workplace. The floor
                                                                                    plans of the ground floor and upper floor in the extension to the tax
                                                                                    consultancy are identical in layout to the open spaces and stand out
                                                                                    clearly from the existing building with its smaller-scale room structure.
                                                                                    Particularly eye-catching are the textile room dividers, which come in
                                                                                    two different colour variations: one in a fresh-looking yellow shade, the
                                                                                    other in blue with a subtle colour gradient. Similar to the room dividers,
                                                                                    wave-shaped textile elements are draped from the ceiling to improve
                                                                                    room acoustics – as do the acoustic absorbers on the walls and the half-
                                                                                    height elements between the tables. Robust carpet tiles were chosen as
                                                                                    the floor covering, picking up on the yellow and blue colour scheme.
                                                                                    The ceiling, on the other hand, is kept in simple white with a fine woo-
                                                                                    den slat structure, into which linear lighting elements are cleverly inte-
                                                                                    grated as basic lighting. In order to offer its (young) employees a fully
                                                                                    attractive working environment, the tax consultancy does not limit itself
                                                                                    to attractively designed office premises, but goes even one important
                                                                                    step further: it is also planning to set up its own day-care centre, which
                                                                                    will certainly make it even easier for some people to decide to start their
                                                                                    career at Deimel. It is no coincidence that the law firm calls itself Die
