Meyer office regrets. “For the timber-construction company, clay is above all a labour
of love that continues.” But of course, the unplastered clay characterizes the rooms and
also regulates the indoor climate. The extension represents a sustainable model for the
next generation of office buildings, combining the concept of material cycle, minimal use
of raw materials, smart material combinations and natural materials under one roof.
Sustainable and forwardlooking – and demountable
Representative of current strategies for CO2-reduced construction, the new building fol-
lows the Design for Disassembly concept – even in its external appearance. The filigree
façade structure made of aluminium and glass is complemented on both sides by hori-
zontally arranged photovoltaic elements, which, together with the awnings, lend the
building a certain lightness. The 638 square metres of photovoltaic modules produce
78,000 kWh of ecological electricity per year. The half-timbered construction can be
easily dismantled, sorted by type and rebuilt elsewhere if necessary. The combination of
existing timber modular construction and newly added timber-hybrid construction has
many advantages. In addition to the varying amount of space that is now available, the
complex also features two complementary forms of prefabrication, reflecting the diffe-
rent areas of expertise of the building owners. Close cooperation between the building
owners and the planners during the construction of the building resulted in a building
that is exemplary in terms of construction and operation, and which also translates
an industrial planning- and manufacturing logic into a harmonious spatial experience. Grundriss 2. Obergeschoss • Floor plan level +2
